The PreMedSKL Future MD Award

Nominate a Student

The PreMedSKL Future MD Award recognizes 50 outstanding Canadian Grade 11 students who combine academic excellence, leadership and a genuine curiosity about medicine and the health sciences. 

The scholarship covers the entire tuition (valued at $7000) for a 1-year national mentorship & enrichment program delivered by award winning medical students, residents and physicians from leading Canadian Universities and Hospitals.

50 Awards $7,000 each Covers 1‑year mentorship program

1. Nominate

Entrance into the program starts with the student being nominated by a school guidance counsellor, academic advisor, principal, etc.

2. Student Application

Next, the student completes a more detailed application. Student applications will be accepted from Nov 17th 2025 to Dec. 15 2025.

3. Awardees Announced

Successful nominees will be notified on Jan. 15th 2026. The program will start Mar. 2026.

Eligibility

Eligible student must meet the follow requirements:

  • Be enrolled as a full‑time Grade 11 student in a Canadian high school (public or independent)
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Minimum ~90% average (or equivalent) in the most recent academic year
  • Demonstrates:
    • Leadership, initiative, and community involvement
    • Authentic interest in medicine or the health sciences
  • Student must be nominated by a school principal or vice principal, school guidance counsellor/academic advisor, or science teacher

Nominate a Student

Each Canadian high school may nominate one (1) highly-qualified Grade 11 student. Nominations must be submitted by a school principal, guidance counsellor/academic advisor, or science teacher. Please refer to the eligibility criteria.

Nomination & Selection Process

  1. School Nomination:
    • PreMedSKL accepts one (1) Grade 11 nominee per school via the electronic nomination form. The nomination form requires student information, student grade average, and a short paragraph (~250 word) endorsement outlining why the nominee is deserving of the award.
  2. Student Application:
    • After being nominated, students are asked to submit a student application via an electronic form. The application will include some short answer questions on the student’s curiosity for medicine and community impact. Specific instructions on the student application process/form will be provided after nomination.
  3. Selection:
    • National committee review; select candidates may be invited for a brief virtual interview. 50 Scholars will be selected by our committee.
  4. Program Participation: March 2026 – December 2026;
    • Weekly coursework (1 hour/week), and weekly (virtual) 1-hour discussion & review sessions. Active engagement required. Certificate upon completion.
    • Spring Semester: Mar. 2026 – May 2026
    • Winter Semester: Sep. 2026 – Dec. 2026

PreMedSKL’s Mentorship & Enrichment Curriculum

Through the spring and winter sessions, awardees will have the opportunity to be mentored by award-winning medical students and virtually rotate through medical specialties like Emergency Medicine, Ophthalmology and Cardiology. 
  • Weekly small‑group mentoring with award‑winning medical students, residents, and physicians
  • Interactive workshops on clinical reasoning, ethics, global health, and scientific communication
  • Career panels across specialties (e.g., surgery, ophthalmology, cardiology)
  • Interview prep based on CASPer and MMI simulation
  • Certificate of completion
