Dr. Sanjay Sharma
MD, MSc (Epid), MBA | Founder, PremedSKL
Sanjay Sharma MD, MSc (Epid), FRCS, MBA is a retinal specialist who is a professor of ophthalmology at Queen’s University.
 An internationally renowned eye surgeon, he has treated over 250,000 patients. Dr. Sharma is a clinician-scientist who has published over 300 scientific papers which have been cited over 10,000 times in the peer-reviewed literature and is the author of 3 textbooks, including the American Medical Association’s, Evidence Based to Value Based Medicine.
The recipient of millions of dollars in research funding, he has received numerous national and international awards for research, teaching and innovation in medicine, including those from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Association of Faculties of Medicine in Canada (AFMC) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
An innovator at heart, he has launched a series of digital platforms, including MEDSKL – a leading medical education platform that now reaches medical students from over 400 Universities. Dr. Sharma, who holds advanced degrees in Epidemiology and Business Administration, completed his medical education at Harvard University.
Dr. Susan Sharma
BSc, MD, CCFP
Dr. Susan Sharma completed her undergraduate degree in Science from King’s College, where she was awarded the Warrena Power Award as its top graduating student. She obtained her medical degree from Dalhousie University and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Queen’s University. The recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, Dr. Sharma, who has been extensively involved in digital health media, serves as PremedSKL’s Medical Education Curriculum Editor.
Dr. Ariel Gershon
MD, PGY-3 Pathology
Dr. Ariel Gershon completed medical school in 2019 at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, Ontario and is currently a Pathology resident at the University of Toronto. Before that, he completed the specialist program in Pathobiology at the University of Toronto. He is a dedicated teacher. Throughout his residency he as been a lecturer to undergraduate students and medical students at the University of Toronto. He also teaches pedagogical theory to residents across Ontario. At MEDSKL, Ariel founded the resident section editor position, and now oversees residents as MEDSKL Clerkship Director.Â
Ehsan Misaghi
MSc, MD-PhD Candidate
Ehsan is an MD/PhD student at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. His current research involves studying the genetic correlates of eye development and specifically an eye disease called coloboma. He has a masters in Neuroscience and an undergraduate double-degree in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering. He is also involved in medical artificial intelligence (AI) startups and committees, is an advocate for equity diversity and inclusion (EDI) in medicine and sciences, and has mentored multiple students from different backgrounds and at different stages.
Britta Gustavson
Britta Gustavson is currently a fourth-year medical student at McGill University. She grew up in Victoria, British Columbia and is starting a residency in ophthalmology at the University of British Columbia in 2022. Britta previously studied neuroscience as an undergraduate at McGill University and pursued a masters in Brain Sciences at University College London. Outside of academics Britta enjoys painting, playing the piano, and spending time outdoors.
Matthew Nelms
Matthew is a third year medical student at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Master of Science from Queen’s University. Academically, he is passionate about medical education with a focus on the use of technology and near-peer mentorship. He is interested in pursuing a career as an anesthesiologist. Outside of work, Matthew is an avid outdoors’s person, an amateur cyclist and wannabe chef.
Madison Rajchyba
Madison Rajchyba is a 4th year medical student at the University of Saskatchewan. She completed her bachelor of fine arts in dance at Adelphi University in New York for her undergraduate degree. She continues to teach dance and Pilates alongside her studies and pursuit of Anesthesiology.
Logan Brennan
Hello pre-med mentees, my name is Logan Brennan and I am from Bragg Creek Alberta. I love hiking, horseback riding, skiing, mountain biking and bowhunting. I am just starting my 4th year of medical school in Thunder Bay at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Looking forward to meeting you all. Let er buck!
Damilola Rafiat Adekunle
I am a second year MD/MSc student at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I completed my undergraduate degree in Biology at MUN and I am completing my Masters in Neuroscience. I am interested in advocacy and EDI to have more inclusion of historically under-represented people in medicine. In my spare time, I enjoy tutoring, hanging out with family and friends and listening to true crime podcasts.

My name is Meagan Wiederman and I am a third-year medical student at Queen’s University. I studied neurosciences at Dalhousie University and worked as a mental health crisis responder before I realized I loved working with people and I wanted to help people with brain diseases. I am the first in my family to pursue this path, so I relied heavily on university supports to learn about medicine as a career; now I give back by mentoring younger students.
Xinran Liu
My name is Xinran (pronounced as “Shin-ran”), and I’m a third-year medical student studying at the University of Toronto. I completed my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience & Physiology at the same university. Coming from an immigrant family, I’m passionate about the medical care of immigrants & refugees in Canada. I also hold an interest in promoting diversity in Medicine through equitable access to mentorship. Outside of academics, I enjoy hiking, running, reading, and spending time with my lovely animals (I have one bunny and one cat, and I foresee this group to continue expanding).
Reem Aziz
Reem is a senior medical student at The University of British Columbia who enjoys staying active & exploring new recipes when not learning medicine. She did her undergraduate degree in Chemical Biology with a minor in Mathematics at McMaster University. In her free time, she likes to run, travel (ask me about my trip to Hawaii), and be on the water (currently learning to surf & dragon boat)!
Nilita Sood
I’m a third-year medical student at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. I completed my undergraduate and master’s degree at Queen’s University. My current research involves studying the genomic data in head and neck cancers to identify potential biomarkers for early diagnosis. I’m also passionate about environmental medicine and am currently in the process of bringing the PARx Nature prescription program to Newfoundland and Labrador.
Bryce Snow
I was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. A track scholarship led me to the University of Wyoming where I graduated with a Bachelor’s in physiology in 2016 and a Master’s in physiology in 2020. I am passionate about access to nutritious food and fitness facilities in under-served communities and tentatively plans to practice family medicine in Wyoming. When not studying, I enjoy skiing, building furniture, writing music, and spending time with my wife.
Valerie Doyon
Valerie is a 4th year medical student in the Island Medical Program of the University of British Columbia. She completed a bachelor’s in biomedical science in the French language at the University of Ottawa, where she worked as an official Student-Mentor for the Faculty of Science. Since then, she has continued to engage with multiple mentorship programs for ages between 16-24 throughout medical school. She is involved on various committees including rural student admissions, as site president of class council, and on the board of directors of the Scleroderma Association of BC. She is passionate about skin cancer and creating multimedia technologies for point-of-care tools and medical education. In her free time, she enjoys practicing karate, jogging, brewing kombucha, cooking, and watching the Bachelor.

Amy Basilious is a medical graduate from the Schulich School of Medicine at Western University, which she attended after completing her undergraduate degree in Behaviour, Cognition and Neuroscience. She is currently pursuing a post-graduate studentship in Retinal Disease and Epidemiology at the Ivey Eye Institute in London, Ontario. She is passionate about improving visual outcomes of patients with eye disease, refugee and newcomer health, and mentorship within medicine.
